Youth town

On wensday 7 of march 2015 Youth town came to Meadowbank. The activities were walkie talkies, problem solving, tipi biuilding, archery, cart building.

We started on walkie talkie. It was not really fun after all but I did it. Then we did tipi building. It was easy to build it. Ours stood up to the windblower. Then we did archery, I just nearly got a bullseye. My team won - 280 points and 120 points. Next we did cart building' it was fun because I got ran over two times it was fun.

At hometime I said to my friend "good bye" the end.

My Cool EOTC Week Writing

On the first day of EOTC week we went on a bus and then we took a ferry.  I forgot to tell you, the trip that we were going on was to go to Rangitoto island.  We went up a hill, I mean a volcano, then we went into lava caves, where someone got their nail burnt.

I felt confident at the time when we were in the lava caves, and we also saw a diamond or ruby, I did not know which one it was.  It was a one hour walk, up and back, so it took one hour to go up, and one hour to go down, it was very tiring of course.  Emily, in my class room, thought she could run up there. I don't know how I survived walking, Well, my legs got sore.  By the time we got back to school, I had a humongous drink of water.  My favourite part of the day was seeing the ruby (or diamond).  That was the end of that day.

Day two we went to a Marae, it was a very hard day, we didn’t go on a ferry this time, we just took the bus.  I really didn’t like some of the day as there were some very stinky smells. I really hated the smelly stuff, I had to take a 5 minutes break from it - the smell came from the rotten kai.

The best part of the day was finding a wolf spider. Wolf spiders stay on flax and they are all black. We learnt about the babies, the parents and the grandparents, flax bushes.  Never cut those type of ones as they are special to the Maori people.

Day three, we did Youthtown, it was fun and it was awesome!!! We built a tipi and then we did archery. That was my favourite part of the day, I got it near the bullseye, it was very fun.  My team won in archery, 280 points vs 180 points.  We walked with walkie talkies. We also did knots and crosses using the walkie talkies and we were all on channel 2 so it was very hard until we were allowed to change our channels, that was the good part.

Day four, we just did garden to table, it was fun, for most of the day we just made boxes that we put goodies in, we used ice cream containers.  I made carrot and cinnamon muffins, it was pretty good having a good time.

Day five, on the last day of EOTC week, was pretty fun. We first went to a hospital were people were looking after old people, I was a wee bit shy there but it was still fun. We got given lollies in the end, but we were not allowed to eat them at school due to a school rule. I had mine taken away as I had a lolly when I should not have had it, but was given it back at the end of the day. After we went back we only had a couple of minutes to share our family trees.  We then went to the bus and then we went to a place were you could go swimming. The first 40 minutes we had swimming lessons and then the other 40 minutes we had free play. There was a slide and a diving board; I really like the diving board, but I got a sore bottom.  My favourite part of the day was diving off the board and jumping into the pools.

Archerr and the diving board were my favourite parts of the whole week

Sean invincible reading goal

I want to know how to get better at my reading the words in my book and at school.

I  have a goal sheet in my reading book, it has 4 goals on the sheet it has Comprehension, Accuracy, fluency and expanding vocab.

I chose accuracy - that one will help me read the words.

I will do this by:

Skipping the word and coming back to it when I am reading.
Chunking letters and sounds together based on patterns I know.
